To Whomever This May Help

I wanted to note the different things I am discovering as a new mom...for whatever reason. lol.

1) It is very helpful to have a pitcher of nursery water at room temperature to keep from having to warm bottle for a very hungry baby.

2) It also helps to go ahead and put water in the bottles for the night time feeding and do this anytime the baby is content so when he is not so content you can quickly prepare him his bottle.

3) A container that portions out formula is very handy! I usually do 2 4 ounce feedings and 1 2 ounce feeding (for if he needs a little more)

4) I would suggest buying more than three of a bottle that you find to work. I say that because you should wait and see what works for your little guy because we have three Avents, 3 disposable liners, 3 Medela, and 3 Dr. Browns. The Dr. Browns were the last purchased and found to work the best. So I need to go buy more because trying to keep 3 clean is a task! Especially when there is a very hungry little guy involved.

5) I love our sound machines! It just makes a white noise but it conditioned me to sleep and I am working on conditioning our little guy to sleep when its on. However, I also have him sleep during the day and do not try to make the house completely quiet.

6) Our little guy likes to be tummy to tummy and be able to bury his face into your chest. It was helpful when I discovered this is what he preferred :)

7) a waterproof bib (called Dribblehappy by Carters) is handy for attaching pacifiers and as a burb cloth that does not fall off

8) The best socks that I have found-meaning that stay on-are from Dollar General. I have tried Gerber and Carter socks and they fall off.

9) Gripe Water seems to be working for us right now but before that Little Tummies worked well and made him forget his discomfort ( I think it was like candy ;) )

10) The most important thing to keep telling yourself- "Babies cry to communicate. Do not let it make you feel like a failure. Step back and watch and listen to figure out what they are trying to say."

I cannot believe Lil' Buckaroo is 3 weeks old! It is hard to believe that I was pregnant for nine months, have already gone through labor and delivery, and have a 3 week old baby now. I have dreamed about being a mom for so long and it is hard to believe that I am not dreaming now. He is such a sweet, sweet lil guy and I love to just snuggle with him every chance I get. However, I am also trying to promote his independence when I can pry myself away. lol ;) Don't get me wrong, he has been keeping me up between the hours of 2 and 9 quite a bit (trying to figure out what is going on) and he does cry occassionally, but he really is overall a real joy. My husband begs me to let him help when he is able-shoot it does not get better than that! Little Angel seems to adore him most of the time-in fact, she wants to help more than I can allow at time. lol. He turns to look at her when he hears her voice, which makes her very happy. She wants to carry him around, which I am not comfortable right now. She is very "in his face" when she is around, which at time can be trying. But overall, I think she is doing well with the adjustment.
